I'm so worried I'm about to say something really insensitive, but: What kind of emergency are you in that you have to use a Mac from 2003?
Retro computing is a quite common hobby! I have more modern computers, using this one just has nostalgic charm! Not insensitive... just.. confused?
@ethancatastrophe I wasn't aware that it had become this common of a hobby. (I was kind of afraid to ask in case a natural disaster had forced you to hook something up with what was available at your grandparent's or something...)
A few years from now I'll probably be doing retro computing myself. ;) I'm running Win 7 on a machine that's over 10 years old. A friend built it, and they know their stuff. It just refuses to break down. And since I would pick Win 7 (or Linux) anyway with the next PC I get, getting a new one 'just because' wouldn't change much for me.
I'm on the Apple side of the community, but I know there's lots of fan patches and support for 7!! I hope it goes great! It's way more popular now!! There's several Youtubers (Action Retro & Mac84 come to mind) and forums like MacRumors PPC board and MacOS9Lives!!! There's no natural disasters that have happened recently, besides a small dust storm that knocked out the power for like 15 minutes!!
@ethancatastrophe Sorry: I made a silly joke that didn't land and I have nobody to blame than my own... I was alluding to my machine probably being considered "retro" in a few years from now, due to its age.
As for the "small dust storm": I think if the electric grid over in my neck of the woods went down without prior warning, there's be... human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together... the lot! ;)

That certainly is a rare sight.
